CAMARSEC PROJECT SEMINAR: TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTIONS IN THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONTEXT OF VIETNAM – A MULTIDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE FROM THE CAMARSEC PROJECT

On April 24, 2023, at the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) took place a seminar to report on the CAMaRSEC project " Research on climate-adaptive materials in the socio-economic context of Vietnam ". The seminar aimed to discuss and evaluate the results achieved by the research team on ensuring an effective governance framework for sustainable construction in Vietnam on the basis of living context, integrated design, and technical background, construction quality and resource use. The seminar also discussed the policies and practices of building energy efficiency and resource protection promoted in Vietnamese cities. At the same time, it helps to connect users and buildings in creating a safe and sustainable living environment for people, discuss on the following direction once the project ends.

Overview of the seminar

Attending the conference, there were Prof.  Dirk Schwede, University of Lubeck, Camarsec Project Leader; Dr. Luu Thi Hong - Deputy Director of Institute of Building Materials - Ministry of Construction; Dr. Dao Viet Ha – Vice Rector of College of Urban Construction; Dr. Ngo Le Minh - Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ton Duc Thang University, HCMC. On the side of HUCE, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Anh - Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan  - Project Manager in Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of International Cooperation Department and lecturers - experts participating in the project.

Immediately after the Camarsec project being kicked off in October 2019 under cooperation of HUCE and partners, HUCE has created the best conditions for the participants in the project to carry out research and experiment activities within the framework of the project, stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Anh - Vice Rector at the opening of the seminar. Although there were many difficulties due to the project's implementation in 2 years, which was heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, but so far, the project has achieved the expected results matching the original goals and contents. One of the best results of the project is the establishment of the Competence Center for Sustainable Building in Vietnam (CCSB-VN). The center is expected to develop independently to continue and carry out the research content as per long-term goal of the project. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Anh also thanked the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Germany), Ministry of Education and Training (Vietnam) for their sponsor, thanked partners for their supports: University of Stuttgart, University of Hamburg, Fraunhofer Institute of Civil Engineering, Saxony State Construction Vocational Training School, Vietnam Institute of Building Materials, Ton Duc Thang University, College of Urban Construction. Hopefully in the future, the units will coordinate and implement more projects.

Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Pham Xuan Anh - Vice President of HUCE delivered his speech at the seminar

At the seminar, project members presented the following reports: Promoting sustainable construction in Vietnam: A perspective from policy; Multidisciplinary perspective on the basis of cooperation between Stuttgart University - Hamburg University - HUCE - Ton Duc Thang University to promote sustainable construction in Vietnam, including technical, material and governance aspects; Multidisciplinary perspective on the basis of cooperation between the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics and the Institute of Building Materials, the Saxony State Vocational School of Construction and the College of Urban Construction to promote sustainable construction in Vietnam, including technical, material and governance aspects.

Also at the seminar, project members and guests had exalting exchanges and discussions, clarifying some issues within the framework of the project's research, and offering some directions for further progress following the CAMaRSEC project.
